The reader of "Citizenship in Construction" will remember that one of the activities that attract the most attention to companies in terms of voluntary participation of their collaborators is reforestation. Many have established alliances with different governments to determine which forested areas can be reinforced with new species. However, he has drawn attention to what happens after having planted the small trees in their different varieties. Some readers have written to this column asking if it would not be necessary to also cultivate the forests, that is, to accompany and monitor the optimal growth of the flora, a task that takes many years. In this context, Aeromexico volunteers have chosen to support and participate in a strategic activity for the recovery of water and oxygen for the Valley of Mexico, such as the cultivation of grasslands. A few days ago, volunteers from the airline joined one of the Conservation International Mexico programs that it has been developing with the Milpa Alta Biological Monitoring brigade in the area known as San Pablo Oztotepec. Thus thirty volunteers from Aeromexico were received by the Milpa Alta Biological Monitoring brigade and one of its environmental specialists, Dr. Adrián Quero from the Montecillo Campus Postgraduate College (COLPOS) to begin the first grassland propagation campaign to restore the Sierra de Chichinautzin area as part of the Water Forest Conservation Initiative, whose objective is to improve the quality and quantity of water that enters the aquifers of the Valley of Mexico. The region's natural grasslands have been undervalued despite playing a key role in aquifer recharge, caared by the State of Mexico, Morelos and Mexico City. As noted, this volunteer activity chosen by Aeromexico is in line with the objectives of corporate social responsibility because it reduces the carbon footprint, but it also participates in a spectrum of environmental care that is little attended to by public authorities and other civil environmental organizations. In this way, forest restoration includes the care of grasslands that positively impacts endemic fauna.
